Meet Dr. James Wells
My life has been richly blessed by getting to know so many wonderful people and considering them part of my extended family. It makes going to the office fun! I really do not see myself ever retiring, because I enjoy the magic of helping a patient develop a positive self-esteem and improved quality of life when we restore or improve their smile. The patients really appreciate what we are doing for them, and my staff and I would not want to miss the warm feeling of thanks that the patients return to us every day!
Education
I am more excited about dentistry today than when I began practicing! Because of the improved technology and dental materials that we have today, I can provide superior care for my patients that was not available 20 years ago. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Chemistry from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia and a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of North Carolina.
My patients benefit every day because I am continually bringing more knowledge to help solve their dental challenges. I invest 30-60 hours per year in continuing education and am a member of the Seattle Study Club, the International Team for Implantology, and the Academy of Computerized Dentistry, as well as the American Dental Association, the North Carolina Dental Society, and the Carteret County Dental Society.
In the Community
I have served nine years on my church vestry, six years as the Carteret County Commissioner, six years on the Carteret County Hospital Board, and 15 years on the Carteret County Health Board. While serving as a county commissioner, I was instrumental in getting a new 50,000 sqft. health department and a state of the art mobile dental clinic provided by matching grants from Duke Foundation and Kate B. Reynolds Foundation that provides dental care to children at school sites all over our county. I have also been a silver sponsor for Relay for Life. Outside the Office
I am a native of Raleigh, North Carolina, and currently reside in Morehead City. My wife's name is Sharon and she is my best friend and encourager. We have a daughter named Catherine who is an elementary school teacher, a son named James who is a Junior at UNC School of Dentistry. We have a Boykin spaniel named Coco who is always willing to make new friends and a great hunting companion.
I enjoy fishing inshore for redfish and speckled sea trout and offshore for dorado, wahoo, sailfish, and marlin. I also like archery hunting for elk in Colorado, and quail and wild turkeys around the country. Hunting for antique American furniture, art, bolo ties, cowboy boots, duck decoys, and turkey calls are also some of my favorite things. I am a cowboy wannabe!
